REG Linux License

REG Linux is a free and open source project. We don't charge for our work; the REG Linux project is developed mainly for fun by a team of passionate individuals in their free time.

The source code for REG Linux is available on our GitHub repositories. You can download and rebuild any version of REG Linux from the source code, and the current development status (master branch) is always open to everyone.

As seen on our GitHub repositories, REG Linux is composed of hundreds of other projects (emulators, kernel, system, media assets, themes, etc.). Each of these projects is licensed by their respective teams, encompassing a variety of licenses including GPL, LGPL, BSD, MIT, and non-commercial licenses, among others.

All the code specifically written by the REG Linux team, unless covered by a license from an upstream project, is given under the LGPL v3 license.

All technical discussions and decisions are made collaboratively with open communication among the REG Linux team and the community. You are welcome to join us on the #developers Discord channel, which is open to everyone.

The REG Linux team stands firmly against any form of discrimination. Please treat everyone on the REG Linux Discord with respect.

The REG Linux team also strongly opposes piracy. Any discussions or requests related to piracy will result in an immediate ban.

Bots, spammers, aggressive behavior, and disrespectful language are not allowed. Our moderator team reserves the right to kick or ban anyone from our Discord channel and forum for violating these rules. If you need assistance, you can find many helpful contributors, testers, and users on our Discord.

Is selling REG Linux on a pre-installed machine or SD-card/USB-drive allowed?

No, this is strictly forbidden. REG Linux includes software that cannot be used in any commercial activity. For example, REG Linux comes with many libretro-based emulators, and their licenses are very explicit about being non-commercial.

Shipping REG Linux with additional proprietary and copyrighted content is illegal, strictly forbidden, and strongly discouraged by the REG Linux team.

Is starting a new project based on REG Linux sources allowed?

Yes, it is allowed both by the license and the spirit of the project!

How can I help?

Our license, Buildroot origins make it fairly easy for anyone with development skills to get into. But you don't need to be a developer to help—there are plenty of ways you can contribute! The best starting point is to join our Discord channel and let us know how you'd like to assist.

We are not accepting monetary donations yet. However, hardware donations are greatly appreciated, as having access to new development boards, USB WiFi adapters, or Bluetooth controllers significantly eases our development work.

REG Linux is supported by a non-profit organization and is in the process of being trademarked.

Thank you!
